Welcome to the Cycle4haiti Blog

…Cycle4haiti, 215 km, and a fundraising goal of €50,000...

Over the course of the upcoming May long weekend (May 1st and May 2nd) Gift Voucher Shop (GVS) staff and friends will rally to the streets in a charity cycle from Dublin to Galway. The goal: raise €50,000 for the Soul of Haiti to support relief-aid after the devastating earthquake of January 12th, 2010.

Without a single avid cyclist amongst those currently registered to take part, the feat begins far before the weekend of the main event. It will be necessary for training to begin months before the two-day, 215 km cycle. Organized by The Gift Voucher Shop’s Bikes4work scheme (www.bikes4work.ie) the event will be followed by local and regional media coverage, a social media campaign, fortnightly newsletters and online newsroom.

Cycle4haiti pushes off from GPO Dublin tomorrow morning!

The time has finally arrived, Cycle4haiti, the 215km cycle from Dublin to Galway with a goal of €50,000 for the Soul of Haiti begins tomorrow morning. George Hook will be there tomorrow to send us off!

Taoiseach Brian Cowen yesterday launched Cycle4haiti at Government buildings. Speaking at the launch An Taoiseach commented: “I would like to wish the cyclists taking part in Cycle4Haiti the very best of luck on their charity cycle from Dublin to Galway. This is a fantastic initiative for a deserving cause and I encourage people to get out and support them on their cross country journey.”

Activities begin from 8.30 tomorrow morning (Saturday) where family, friends and colleagues will be on hand to cheer the cyclists off. If you’re around Dublin city, make sure to pop over as there will be great excitement.

We are over half way to our goal of €50,000 so with a little more support along the way, we are sure to reach our goal for Haiti. Click here to donate online, alternatively, go to www.Cycle4haiti.com. If you see Cycle4haiti passing through your town, please give a big cheer for support.

Mary O’Rourke TD will be pushing us off from the Creggan Court Hotel in Athlone on Sunday Morning at 10am.

On arrival into Galway at 4pm on Sunday, cyclists will be met by supporters, Padraig O’Ceidigh, Chairman of Aer Arran and Deputy Major of Galway Councillor Peter Keane.

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us, we really appreciate everyone’s extreme generosity.
